P. Susan Clow graduated with a Fine Arts Degree from Queen’s University and a B.Sc. Art as Applied to Medicine from the University of Toronto. She worked as a freelance Medical and Graphic artist for clients across North America, illustrating and designing for books, presentations, television and patient education. Having taken a hiatus of ten years from the business of art to raise her three children, Susan returned full time to use her skills and imagination for her illustration and fibre art.

She is fluent in a wide variety of medium ranging from sculpture to print, pen and ink to airbrush. Her etching, “Good Friday” won Best of Show: Print and the Seagrams purchase award at the Ontario Society of Artist’s Show. Susan began sewing as a child and became involved in the quilt world in the early 1990’s. Having developed her technical skills, she has now reached the point where her imagination and talents enhance each other so she can create and express her ideas in the medium of her choice.

Over the years, Susan has built up an extensive collection of fabrics which gives her the freedom to explore with colour and design to express concepts or just create beautiful pieces of art. Careful selection of different fabrics and placement are an integral part of the design process. Once the pieces are sewn together, she enhances the image with various threads by “drawing” with machine stitches. Each piece of artwork is unique.

The last several years, Susan has been teaching art and fibre art to adults and children as a way to share her expertise. She has just started producing patterns with some of her designs. Clients may commission artwork or Susan would create a design for a quilter to produce themselves, such as a tribute to a family member.

Susan's e-mail address reflects her philosophy that “art evolves” and she plans to continue her life that way.
